Rashemen

The Land of Berserkers

✦ ✦ ✦

The Land of Berserkers — a cold, spirit-haunted country where fur-clad warriors rage in battle and masked Witches rule from the shadows.

A Harsh and Hidden Land

Rashemen lies in the Unapproachable East, a rugged and nearly inhospitable country of alpine rock, frozen rivers and brooding forests. Its people are hardy, fiercely independent and devoted to a warrior ideal, disdaining the soft trappings of civilization. They prove their strength through harsh contests and brutal physical trials, for weakness invites death from the land's many monsters. The country is alive with nature spirits, any of which may turn jealous or vengeful against those who give offence.

Iron Lord & Witches

Rashemen is ruled in name by the huhrong, or Iron Lord — a mighty warrior who commands its armies and receives foreign dignitaries. But the true power lies with the Wychlaran, the masked order of witches whose name means "wise old women." They choose each Iron Lord and may remove any who fails to serve the land's interests. The witches dwell in the forbidden Urlingwood, where they commune with spirits and watch their enemies. A darker sect, the Durthan, turns instead to spirits of destruction and vengeance.

Warriors & Old Enemies

The famed berserkers of Rashemen fight in loose warbands called Fangs, each led by a chieftain; in time of war the witches themselves take command. Above all, Rashemen stands locked in centuries of conflict with neighbouring Thay, whose Red Wizards have launched invasion after invasion — most of them crushed in the defensible Gorge of Gauros.
